EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP
Alexandre (Alex) Theoharidis
Chief Executive Officer
Alex holds valuable knowledge of all aspects of the mobile healthcare and health IT industry, including a mastery of logistics, demand analysis, forecasting resource needs, and contract negotiations. He specifically has 13 years of experience with the clinical, financial, and operational aspects of the ambulance and medical transportation industry, including patient care, operations, billing, reimbursement, and workflow processes. Alex has demonstrated his unique ability to rapidly launch, scale, and execute against strategic business plans within the ambulance and mobile healthcare industries, including successful programming in mass COVID testing during the pandemic.
Alex founded Coastal Medical Transportation Systems (CMTS) in 2013 and has grown the company from three employees to a staff of over 1000+ EMTs and Paramedics with 250+ vehicles, now serving as one of New England's largest ambulance service providers. In October of 2023, Alex founded Estella Health, a rapidly growing mobile healthcare business. He was also the co-founder and CEO of Acuity Link, a comprehensive emergency and non-emergency medical transportation, communications, and logistics management platform provider, which was sold to Central Logic in January of 2021. In 2022, CMTS announced the acquisition of Transformative Healthcare’s Massachusetts medical transportation arm, comprised of Fallon Ambulance Service and LifeLine Ambulance Service. This deal made CMTS one of the largest ambulance providers in New England by both geographic reach and number of patients served.
Mark Contardo
Chief Operating Officer
In his role as Chief Operating Officer, Mark oversees the development and execution of Coastal Medical's strategies of promoting company growth and customer satisfaction. He most recently served as President of Avante Health Solutions, a capital equipment company that services hospitals, clinics and healthcare systems internationally. There, he had full P&L responsibility, leading a team of sales, operations, and production to improve market reach and efficiency.
Mark holds a BS in electrical engineering technology from the University of Massachusetts, North Dartmouth. Additionally, he previously served as a captain in the United States Air Force.
Doug Kangos
Chief Financial Officer
Doug brings more than 30 years of financial leadership experience to the team at CMTS. He spent the bulk of his career as a partner with PwC, one of the leading professional services networks in the world delivering assurance, tax and advisory services to early stage and private companies up to Global Fortune 500 companies. Doug then moved on to hold C-suite roles in nearly half a dozen organizations including Acuity Link and Healthfleet, Inc. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Economics from Clark University and an MBA from Babson College.
Michael Pieretti
Chief Quality Officer
Michael currently serves as the Chief Quality Officer and Executive Vice President of Clinical Care and has worked at Coastal since 2015. A paramedic by trade, Michael's focus on clinical quality, education, and operational scalability and resiliency has contributed to the constant growth of CMTS since the company's outset.
Michael also co-founded Acuity Link with Alex Theoharidis, a comprehensive non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) communications and logistics platform provider, which was acquired by Central Logic in January of 2021. Michael continued with Central Logic following the acquisition to lead their Intelligent Transport product until March of 2022, when he rejoined Coastal Medical to lead operations during aggressive growth.
Prior to joining CMTS, Michael worked for Boston MedFlight's ground critical care transport team and healthcare simulation team, and for Pro EMS as a 911 paramedic. Michael also serves on the academic advisory council for the Pro EMS Center for MEDICS paramedic education program. Michael brings over 18 years of diversified clinical, operational, and technological experience to the executive leadership team.
Steve Rose
Executive Vice President, Operations, Metro & Central
Steve brings a unique background of diversified healthcare experience as both a clinician and sales manager that began over two decades ago. He earned a BS in Business Management from Indian Wesleyan University and has spent the past decade in the medical device industry as a successful sales manager. Most recently, Steve worked for a global medical device company where his product expertise, business acumen and experience engaging C-suite executives made him one of the company's most successful managers.
In his current role as Executive Vice President Business Development with Coastal Medical Transportation Systems, Steve is tasked with contributing to the commercial success of the organization by supporting the development and implementation of data-driven practices designed to promote meaningful revenue and retention. In addition to overseeing the build out of the company's customer relationship management system, he leads an ongoing, collaborative effort to align internal teams with current and prospective partners.
Spero Theoharidis
Executive Vice President, Operations, South
As Executive Vice President of Operations at Coastal Medical Transportation Systems, Spero Theoharidis oversees daily operations, workforce management, and service innovation across Cape Cod, the Islands, and Eastern Massachusetts. His focus on operational excellence and patient-centered care helps position CMTS as the region’s leading EMS provider. Spero first joined CMTS as Vice President of Customer Engagement, where he played a key role in building healthcare partnerships and driving the company’s impressive growth through forward-thinking solutions and enhanced customer experience.
Prior to his work at CMTS, Spero served as Vice President of Acuity Link, a groundbreaking EMS communications platform that transformed real-time coordination between ambulance services and healthcare institutions and was later acquired by Central Logic in 2021. With a background in project management and business development, he brings a strong track record of innovation and strategic leadership to the prehospital care industry, helping CMTS stay at the forefront of emergency medical transportation.
Rich Quirk
Executive Vice President, Fleet and Facilities
Rich joined the team at CMTS in 2021. As Executive Vice President of Fleet and Facilities, he manages all fleet operations, facilities management, and logistics of equipment and supplies. Rich brings a wealth of knowledge in this space with a previous role in the c-suite with Silver Cloud Towing and Recovery where he oversaw towing and recovery operations, fleet management, and company growth strategies.
Mike Kass
Vice President Legal, Risk, and Compliance
Mike Kass serves as Vice President, Legal and Risk Management for CMTS, providing strategic legal counsel and overseeing all aspects of compliance and enterprise risk management. With more than 35 years of experience in emergency medical services, public health, and public safety, Mike brings deep expertise in regulatory frameworks and operational leadership. He has held several key positions in Massachusetts state government, including Director of the Office of Emergency Medical Services, Deputy Director of the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, and General Counsel for the State 911 Department. Mike also has extensive private sector experience in EMS law and administration, advising organizations on legal, regulatory, and policy matters.
